Panjshir Valley (also spelled or Panjshir Panjshir, Persian دره پنجشير - Dare Panjšir literally the Valley of Five Lions) is a valley in north-central Afghanistan, 150 km north of Kabul, near massif of the mountains of the Hindu Kush. Located in the Panjshir province is divided by the River Panjshir. The valley is home to more than 140,000 people, including the highest concentration of Tajiks in Afghanistan. In April 2004, became the heart of the Panjshir Province.It is also notable for being the home of Ahmad Shah Massoud.
