Elephant god Ganesh, reputed to bring good luck, Nepal

Lakshmi (Sanskrit: लक्ष्मी Lakshmi, the pronunciation of Hindi:, Tamil: latchumi, Telugu: లక్ష్మి, Lakshmi) is the Hindu goddess of wealth and well-being (both physical and mental), light, wisdom, luck, fertility, generosity and courage, and the epitome of beauty, grace and charm. Representations of Lakshmi Jain monuments also occur. Also known as Mahalakshmi, is said to bring luck and is believed to protect him from fans of all kinds of misery and financial hardship related.

Lakshmi in Sanskrit is derived from its elemental form, Laks, which means "to perceive or observe." This is a synonym for the lessons, which means "end" or "objective". Hindu sacred texts, the Vedas call the Mahalakshmi Lakshyayidhi Lakshmihi which means that it is he who is the object and the goal of uplifting humanity.

Shri Mahalakshmi is called in Tamil or Thirumagal; in Telugu), because it was equipped with six auspicious and divine qualities or Gunas, and also because it is a source of strength to a maximum of Lord Narayana. He is the spouse of Vishnu and married Rama (in her incarnation as Sita) and Krishna (as Rukmini and Radha later). All the wives of Krishna were the forms of Lakshmi.

Durga Puja in Bengal, Lakshmi is considered a sister, daughter Durga, Saraswati and his brother, Ganesha and Karthikeyan.
