Luang Prabang, Laos

Luang Prabang, or Louangphrabang (Lao: ຫຼວງ ພຣະ ບາງ, literally: "Royal Buddha image (mudra dispelling fear)," pronounced [luaŋtone missing), is a city located in north-central Laos, the Nam Khan river meets the river Mekong, about 425 km (264 miles) north of Vientiane. The city was once the capital of a kingdom of the same name. Until the arrival of the communists in 1975, she was the royal capital and seat of government of the Kingdom of Laos. The city is also known as World Heritage Site.

Most of the city consists of four main roads is on a peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan. The city is known for its many temples and Buddhist monasteries. Every morning hundreds of monks from different monasteries, walking the streets collecting alms. One of the most important monuments of the city is a big steep hill, which is Wat Si Chom.
